Get ready before the right rental appears

By Matt Sweeting

A couple organizing documents for their rental search

A little preparation makes a rental search easier to manage. Start with a clear brief and keep the information you may be asked for organized.

Separate essentials from preferences

Choose your preferred locations, move-in window and must-haves. Decide which features are flexible, such as furnishings, outdoor space or an extra bedroom. Give me that shortlist so I can help focus your search.

Ask what the application needs

Each landlord’s process can differ. Ask which documents and references are required, how they should be submitted and when you can expect an answer. Have suitable information ready, but only share personal documents through an agreed, trusted channel.

Keep your search in one place

Track the homes you have viewed, the contact person and any follow-up questions. If your dates or requirements change, let me know early. Clear communication helps us spend time on properties that still fit.
